SUMMARY:Discover Dunans Castle: A tale about preservation in the Scottish Highlands on Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Dunans Castle\, the ancestral seat of the Fletcher clan set in the stunning Scottish Highlands\, was ravaged by a fire in 2001\, causing much damage to the 18th- and 19th-century structure. But in 2002\, Charles Dixon-Spain and his wife\, Sadie\, happened to drive down the country lane and discovered the castle. Seeing beauty in the ruins\, they determined to acquire it and have since set upon a course of preservation and restoration. \nCharles will be joining us for an online talk from the castle in Scotland\, where he now lives with his family. He will regale us with tales from his restoration adventure\, which has been filled with surprises\, disappointment\, hurdles\, and celebrations as he\, along with volunteers from the non-profit\, Adventures in Preservation\, bring Dunans Castle back to its glory!

SUMMARY:Exploring Scottish Connections of the Book of Kells
DESCRIPTION:Dr Victoria Thompson Whitworth will present her latest research exploring the origins of the Book of Kells and its potential ties to Pictish eastern Scotland. Her findings challenge the traditional belief that the manuscript was created on Iona\, raising intriguing questions about Scotland’s role in early medieval art and history. Joining her will be Master Craftsman Thomas Keyes\, who will share insights from his work recreating medieval manuscript techniques\, offering a deeper understanding of this extraordinary period. \nThe event will be held in person in Edinburgh and will also be live-streamed worldwide for those who wish to attend virtually via Zoom. \nThis event provides a unique opportunity to engage with groundbreaking research that celebrates Scotland’s and cultural significance. \nTickets can be purchased here: https://buytickets.at/tarbatdiscoverycentre/1506358\, and all ticket sales directly support the Tarbat Discovery Centre’s Building Preservation Fund\, which covers essential repairs. \nPLEASE NOTE THE TIME: 1900p-2030 GMT so it will be 2:00pm to 3:30pm in Boston
