2025 Scot of the Year – Mark Blyth
Mark Blyth is a Dundee-born economist whose leadership and scholarship have made him one of the most influential Scottish voices in global economic discourse. He serves as the William R. Rhodes ’57 Professor of International Economics and Director of the Rhodes Centre for International Economics at Brown University’s Watson Institute, where he advances research and public understanding on inequality, populism, and global markets. A renowned author and commentator, Mark is known for translating complex economic ideas into clear, accessible insights, regularly contributing to media, public forums, and major policy conversations. He also serves on the Scottish Government’s Advisory Council for Economic Transformation, helping shape Scotland’s economic future. Beyond his academic work, Mark is a committed mentor and Patron of the Scottish International Educational Trust, supporting students pursuing study and research abroad. His dedication to elevating Scottish perspectives in the U.S. and abroad, paired with his global influence as a thinker and educator, makes him an exceptional representative of the Scottish community in New England and beyond.
