2025 Organization – Scots’ Charitable Society

The Scots’ Charitable Society, founded in 1657 in Saugus, Massachusetts, is the oldest charitable organization in the Western Hemisphere and has upheld its mission of Scots “Helping Scots” for more than three centuries. With over $3 million awarded in scholarships to New England students of Scottish heritage and more than $500,000 in direct relief to individuals in need, the Society remains a vital source of support for the community. Beyond philanthropy, SCS is a cultural leader, hosting signature Scottish events such as the Tartan Ball, an annual golf outing, and participating in Highland Games across New England. The organization recently completed a major preservation project at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, restoring historic Scottish funerary art and grounds. With distinguished members and donors that have included figures like Andrew Carnegie, the Scots’ Charitable Society continues to embody service, tradition, and pride—ensuring that Scottish culture and community flourish for generations to come.
