Hanneke Cassel and Friends– Concert and Ceilidh: A Celebration of Scottish Music and Dance
November 12 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Boston Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society invites you to a gala afternoon concert and ceilidh featuring Hanneke Cassel (fiddle), Dave Wiesler (piano), Stephen Thomforde (pipes), Highland Dance Boston, and the Boston Scottish Country Dancers. This year will be our 26th Celebration of Scottish Music and Dance.
A driving force in the ever-changing landscape of acoustic music, Hanneke blends music from the Isle of Skye and Cape Breton Island with Americana stylings. Her playing has been described by the Boston Globe as “exuberant and rhythmic, somehow wild and innocent, delivered with captivating melodic clarity and an irresistible playfulness.” Since Dave Wiesler began playing for folk dances in 1992, he has built a national reputation for his rhythmic and innovative piano playing, as well as for his sensitive accompaniment of dancers, choruses, and soloists.
Highland Dance Boston will perform traditional and contemporary highland dances, and the Boston Scottish Country Dancers will showcase the jigs and reels and stately strathspeys enjoyed at social dances in Scotland and all over the world. Intermission will offer easy ceilidh dances for everyone to try, dances that will appeal to kids of all ages!
