New England Scot of The Year Awards 2024

Scot of the Year Awards David Clay

On December 5th, we celebrated the incredible contributions of individuals who have made a lasting impact on Scottish communities across New England. The New England Scot of the Year Awards honor leadership, dedication, and service to preserving and promoting Scottish heritage. This year’s winners exemplify these values:

Gary Kidd, Emerging Scot of the Year, has transformed his community in Kent, CT, through vibrant initiatives like hosting a sold-out Burns Supper and teaching ceilidh dancing, bringing Scottish culture to life for all ages.

Mark Bamforth, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, has spent decades fostering connections between Scotland and New England through leadership in life sciences, philanthropy, and mentorship programs like the Saltire Scholars.

Barbara McOwen, honored as Scot of the Year, has dedicated her life to preserving Scottish fiddle music, founding the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club and inspiring generations of musicians. This evening celebrated the achievements of these remarkable individuals while highlighting the enduring legacy of Scottish culture in New England.

Stay tuned for more updates and join us in continuing to honor and support our vibrant community!

A special Thank You to British Consul General to New England David Clay (pictured above), and his wife Sophie, who kindly hosted us at their residence in Boston.

We would also like to extend our thanks to our Event Sponsors below, without which, none of this would be possible:
