‘Thistles and Things’ is one of our great Scottish Shops in New England. Scottish owner, Patricia, grew up with the influence of Scottish culture and currently teaches Scottish Country Dancing and plays both the Celtic harp and the fiddle. Patricia says “It is my love and passion for Scotland, its craftsmanship, music, and dances that led me to the decision to become the new owner of Thistles & Things”. Based in Harpswell, Maine, Thistles, and Things carry a wide variety of items that would make lovely gifts, from jewelry, kilt accessories, country dance ghillies, books, and more. Being a small female-owned business, Patricia may not be able to match the big companies’ Black Friday deals, but she will be happy to take the time to chat with you to find a perfect match for what you are looking for, and we all like to have a friendly face to help us out.
I invited Patricia to recommend ‘Thistles & Things’ top 5 gifts this season, and she has some great suggestions covering a lovely range of Scottish items. From a cute bib for babies and a fabulous book for the wee ones to beautiful brooches and kilt pins for the adults. I’m sure you will find some great gifts to delight that special someone.
If you would like to place an order, please email Patricia at [email protected]
Or feel free to telephone 207-841-3232.
Here are Thistles and Things top 5 for the season.
‘Nessie’ Mini bib
How about this cute mini terry bib, perfect for that little one showing off our Nessie, our very own Loch Ness Monster.
Bill Bill’s Beltie Bairns
This wonderful children’s book is a fun read-aloud book. Come over to the hills to meet Big Bill the Bull’s Beltie Bairns. There’s a spring surprise for Bertie and Buntie. Will it be frightening or friendly? Find out by following them on their first trip out into the fields.
Handcrafted in Scotland, this heathergem brooch is a Scottish Celtic Swirl in pewter. The center is a uniquely Scottish heathergem. Heathergems are made from heather and no two pieces will have the same coloration. Patricia would be happy to take a picture to show the array of beautiful colors available for you to choose from.
To finish up your kilt attire, consider this Sgian Dubh which has a Celtic pattern with an amethyst.
Scotland the Brave Tea Towel
This towel, Scotland the Brave, is 100% cotton. These cheery pipers in front of their Castle will look great in any kitchen.
